Boden & Davies Ltd was established in 1961 by the late Geoff Boden and is still owned and operated by the Boden family three generations down the line.
The business began when Geoff saw an opportunity to collect sawmill residues at a cost, to then sell on to farms as animal bedding. At a time when there was little waste management, this was considered a favourable waste stream for many manufacturing sites which caused the business to grow at a rapid rate.
Quickly outgrowing the site in Stockport, Geoff invested in our main depot based in Astley, Manchester. With this site being a total of 15 acres, Geoff was able to branch into the wood recycling sector.
The wood is taken into our sites and passed through our modern, high speed processing plant. The various specifications of wood chip produced on site are distributed into streams such as panel board manufacturing and renewable energy.
Bodens are also one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of pet products, manufacturing wood-based cat litter, small animal bedding and equine bedding for some of the biggest names on the high street. Our own brands of Smart Cat, Smart Pet & Smart Horse are widely recognised nationwide and are continually growing into multiple pet markets.
